Sonoma Wine Trip

Dan’s parents are touring California this month and generously put us up at their Windsor “home” for a few days. It was great to relax a bit and enjoy Jill and Dan Jr.’s cooking. Other ways we hit the jackpot: sunny weather, small January crowds (mostly just us) at the wineries, and no run-ins with bachelorette parties. Sonoma County seems to have a never-ending supply of adorable little towns. Sonoma (the town) is a must-see (it’s more than Barbie dolls pinned to doors, believe us) and who knew that Geyserville has top-notch art galleries and a lovely brick-oven pizzeria?  If I were forced to retire outside of SF, Sonoma County would be on the short list.

I commuted down to Vallejo and missed day one of wine-tasting, but on day two, we visited Stryker, Fritz, Ferrari-Carano (garden only), Dry Creek, and wrapped it up at our old-favorite, Hop Kiln. It’s the slow season for wine-tasting, which meant when we got to Fritz around 2 pm, we were greeted with enthusiasm, as the day’s *first* visitors. Strange, given the day was perfect for it:
