Dream Team rosters

Below is a comprehensive record of the best players who have ever played in each city. Each entry is organized around the concept of a 40-man roster; backups are in gray text. Bracketed position players would not be carried on a 25-man roster; neither would the pitchers listed in gray. Left-handed pitchers are marked with an asterisk. Each player’s best year is indicated. Bolded names produced the most WAR for position players or pitchers in that city’s history. Italicized position players played fewer than 30 games at that position for their team; italicized pitchers are starters listed as relievers (or vice versa). An underlined pitcher is the primary reliever for that team. Underlined positions indicate that the player played more games at that position than he did at the one for which he is listed. An ellipsis after a player’s name indicates that the player is currently playing in that city. Team rankings are derived from a “starting group” of 18 players and their cumulative WAR production over 100 games; the ranks listed are for: position players, then pitchers, then overall (and are out of 32). Each club that has played in the same city since 1921 has an “all-time nine” listed (compiled from 1921 to the present and based on WAR alone; slashes indicate players who are not at their primary positions).
