The Commute Home- 10/31/08
Last night was definitely the commute of the month, maybe the year. [The dredging is finally done, btw. And in other news, the new lower Vallejo ferry rates start today!] After a late arrival into Fisherman’s Wharf (boat mechanical problems?), I got on my first bus to discover I’d be participating in some human advertising for a local oil company. My seat:
Shouldn’t it have been “I am using less energy”? Fortunately, no one was paying attention to the bus anyway, because as we moved up Van Ness, we met up with a special Halloween edition of Critical Mass (going the other way). I was on the right side of the bus to enjoy the parade (couldn’t get any decent pix with the phone, so i’ve stolen a few images here):
My favorites were the electric school of fish tied to the backs of numerous bikes throughout the 10-15 minute parade.
My luck continued when we got to Geary for my transfer to the 38-L, just as the CM show was ending. Geary (a cross street to Van Ness) was backed up for blocks, and there were swarms of folks waiting at the bus stop, but things actually got moving very quickly as no less than four 38/38-L’s pulled right up. Before I knew it, I was home with Dan and some lovely puttanesca.
The whole evening really got me in the mood to see that new short film coming soon about Provo’s Critical Mass. Can’t wait for it!
